"In
a new country there will be no slavery and hence no slaves." Captain Arthur Phillip said this in 1787 before leaving England to become
the first Governor of the new colony of Australia.
Phillip landed at Sydney Cove in 1788 after an eight month sea voyage.
A SITE AGAINST TRAFFICKING
Slavery exists today. It’s right
here among us and happening under our noses. That’s
right – Australia is a destination for trafficked
people who are used for a variety of purposes!
We want to give them a voice. This site seeks to tell
their stories so that society here can make a stand
against such human rights abuses.
We want to give YOU a voice too. This site seeks to
allow users to discuss and actively respond to the crisis
that is human trafficking and slavery in our country
and region.
What is trafficking? How big is the problem?
The only way to a solution is to be armed with the information.
Get definitions, downloads, statistics, links, maps and
more material to abolish modern day slavery here.
We have to stop trafficking today. The problem’s
big but not impossible to tackle. Each of us have roles
to play. Here we can both give you ideas of how and hear
what you have to say to make the best use of our gifts
to take on the mission of eradicating the trade of persons.
