    The establishment of the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women - to be known as UN Women - is a result of years of negotiations between UN Member States and advocacy by the global women’s movement. Sydney couple held five women in slavery conditions: court (10 May 2010)
McIvor & Tanuchit were each charged with slavery offences as set out in the Criminal Code and they were each found guilty. They appealed the conviction and the Court of Criminal Appeal ordered a retrial. The retrial began tiday in the District Court and the case is expected to be heard for over 4 weeks.
